Monthly Minecraft Challenge

Our class has been doing monthly Minecraft challenges to convince all the other teachers in our school to understand that Minecraft is a reliable source to use for writing. So basically we do one of the monthly challenges on Minecraft Education and then have to write a certain amount of words about why we chose to make that thing and explaining what we made to be finished. So it's practically writing. Here are a couple of my photos.

This challenge was what we would build on a desert island. I built a one person bach and they have to swim in the water instead of taking a shower at whatever time they want. I don't really take much interest in Minecraft but a monthly challenge doesn't bother me.  I had a lot of fun and am so excited for the next Minecraft challenge. Do you think that Minecraft is a reliable source for writing?

Our self management sheet

My class has something called our Self Management sheet. This is where we have all of the work we have to finish for the week. As a senior class at our school we are learning to manage the work we are given to get us ready for high school. Here is our work for this week.

The kiwi kids is worldwide news for kids. There is a bunch of cool stories on there like a man hit by poo, we are supposed to read the story then answer the Recall and Thinking questions by just remembering what we have learn't from the story. We have kind of been slipping off on our blogs lately so we have to do a blog about anything we want. We need to do a multimodal site for reading. We are supposed to get four stories off the internet then under that do a question or a task for each of them. Then we are supposed to put an activity that we have tried before and know it is a good topic for our site. Then we find a YT video based on the topic of our site to make it more interesting. The podcast story is us recording us reading our story. Then the google tour is when a family of four travel around NZ for two weeks and have a budget of ten thousand dollars. We have to link where we got our information from and try not to spend too much food everyday of the trip. Do have a Time Management sheet?

My new famous string art

In lock down I taught myself how to do string art with out a tutorial. I will teach you how to do it.

I would say the learning was a success because they turned out pretty good. You will need a big thick needle, cotton string, a canvas, paint, scissors and masking tape. First cut masking tape to length of canvas. Then put tape on whatever place you want (I did sideways ). Paint the half then wait to dry before switching where the tape was put and paint the other side. When completely dry draw a design on the back and poke holes through the canvas from the design on the back. Then cut a long piece of string and divide into four pieces. Then put the little piece of string through the needle and tie a simple knot. Weave through the holes making sure that after you go through the hole from the back you go through the hole to make that stitch appear. Make sure to always end at the back of the canvas so you can cut of excess there and keep on going just like you started with a new piece of string. Have you ever made string art before?

My super fun birthday

Yesterday was my birthday. Mum and I made a feast for dinner. My favourite dinner is Chinese so Mum and I made Sweet N Sour Pork & Lemon Chicken on Fried Rice. It takes a lot of preparation and time to make. We also baked a cake but Mum wanted to surprise me with the special icing. Mum and Dad couldn't get presents so Dad got as many lollies as possible from the supermarket. Mum and my sister Anika stayed up late Wednesday night to put up balloons and decorate the box of lollies.

My B-day pics

Have you every made Chinese food at home before? Did you enjoy it?

My Cool Lock Down Rap

In lock down it's very fun to do stuff like baking and bike rides. But my teacher Mr A wanted the class to do a lock down rap.

I have been writing this rap about how I feel about lock down. My favourite part was the titanic part. I think that when in lock down if you don't go out of the house then you should bake and play outside and have some fun instead of laying in your bed all day. Have you ever done a lock down rap? If not ask your teacher and use Pobble because you get inspiration from the pictures on that website.

My amazing slide about Ian Ferguson!

This is my slide of facts about Ian Ferguson. Ian Ferguson is  amazing at racing in a Canoe. He has a heap of cool memorable medals. He has four Gold medals and one Silver. We have been learning how to research about people and this time it was an Olympian.

There aren't many names as big and Ian Ferguson when it comes to Canoeing. Many kiwis want to be like him when they grow up. I really enjoyed researching about Ian Ferguson he has a really cool ability and strength. Ian Ferguson always have a bunch of momentum and won 4 out of 5 Olympics. Who is your favourite Olympian?

Our amazing Harakeke baskets

Yesterday I really enjoyed making our Harakeke basket to hold our sausages in this Friday.  WALT make Harakeke baskets to put our sausages in on Friday. We need to get our baskets finished in order to get a free sausage.

We did it by getting two bits of flax and taking out the little strong bit in the middle. Then pull each half into three pieces. After we put seven of the pieces on way and weaved one over under to the end and then one under over to the end and so on. Then after we ran out of sticks we would go onto the side that only had five pieces and folded the one on the outside of the middle one over and then fold the left end one over to the right and then put the right one to the left side. Then I would tie them together and do the same on the other side of 5 pieces. I would get the middle one of the three and put it through the tie at the end of the other three. The you get all of the other long pieces and criss cross them around over the bit of flax you just put through the tie and fold some through the part where the sausage goes and it should look a bit like this or even better. I really enjoyed learning how to make these Harakeke mats. Mine does not quite look like a basket it mostly looks like a flat thing instead of a basket. Is this something you want to make?

Emily Carr art term 2 art

This term my class has been learning about a famous Canadian artist named Emily Carr. Sadly Emily passed away 2 March 1945. Emily had a painting that was sold after she was dead for 3.9 million she really liked to paint trees and had a funky style. Here's a picture of a painting that Emily Carr made.

You can search up Emily Carr's paintings and there are a heap of pictures on google that she made.

So my class painted trees. First we used a sponge and painted 2-3 colours of paint onto a piece of paper. Then we had to draw on a piece of a visual on what we wanted our tree to look like. After that we had to look at our visual and try and paint it on our painting after they had dried. We also added grass at the bottom and we are very proud of us.

Do you like my painting? Do this make you want to research about Emily Carr more?

Tips to find out if and article is true or fake!

This week my class has been learning ways on how to find out if articles tell real or fake stories. Here is my Canva poster about tips to see if an article is true or fake.

I did it by using Canva and finding a background that's not to busy so then you can read the words. I tried to make a good colour combination so it is more pleasing to the eye. Then I thought of a few tips that I thought were good enough and put them on. After I let you know that I did it by finding a design of cool text and put a heading on. Have you ever made a poster on Canva before?

Some Cool Pluto facts.

Here is my Pluto website. Last week my class learned all about Pluto we also have been learning to make google sites.

I made it by going into my drive and clicking new then I went to more at the bottom and clicked on Google site. I started by stating the facts that I knew about Pluto and put in a picture. After that I went on a website got a picture about Pluto and found out how long it takes Pluto to get around the Sun. It takes 247.9 Earth years for Pluto to make one orbit around the Sun, at an average speed of 10,623 miles per hour (17,096 kilo meters per hour). I think I did pretty well with the website however I think I could have done better. I know a lot of things about Pluto now. Do you think Pluto should become a planet once again?

The Crazy Cross Country

I have been learning about pacing myself and to try and not stop as much. By this I mean keeping energy for the final sprint at the end.

I am trying to get better at running because know I am a senior I can go to West Coast Cross Country.

I didn’t really run at the end but that is okay because I am very proud of the place I came. When I was running there was one competitor in front like way in front and the rest behind me I didn’t want anyone to pass me so I stopped and they stopped at the same time so I could keep in front of them. I came second place and I will be going to the West Coast Cross Country.

Do you like Cross Country?

Our amazing ANZAC writing

This is our ANZAC writing that we did last term and how we made it. I learn’t how to make a piece of paper look old so we could make our writing look old. Here is a picture.

It's a long process but the finishing product looks really cool.

This is how we made it.

We made it by writing letters on our computers from a perspective that makes us look like a nurse or a soldier I picked soldier. Then we got pieces of paper covered it in tea bags and sprinkled it with a burst teabag. Then we let it dry. Once it was dry we had to write down what we had written on our computer on the old pieces of paper with a pencil.. Then we got pictures of the war and cut out poppies. Lastly we glued the writing, the photos and poppies on to a black piece of paper.

Would you do this art for ANZAC day? Do you now what ANZAC stands for?

The Most Amazing Athletics

Here is a picture at the athletics.

First I had discus, it went well. My first throw was better than my second but my third throw was the biggest throw I have ever done before. My old personal best was 19.60m and that one was 22m I was so proud of myself I came first by 7m. I also did 80m, High jump, Long jump and 50m I didn’t place with any of them. For Shot put I think I got 6.62m and bet all of the boys and girls by 1m. I also made it into West coast athletics because this is districts. I made it into west coast for 50m which was a surprise because I thought I did better in 80m than 50m, I also made it for Discus and Shot put, which I am very excited for. Do you like athletics? Are you good at it?

The marvelous athletics sports

On Thursday I had school athletics. I had lot's of fun here is a picture of athletics I made of the Discus flying through the air.

I got third in the 80m and the 50m sprints, 2nd in the high jump, 2nd in the long jump, 1st in the shotput with 7.20m and 1st in the discus with 17m. I also made it to districts witch I am very excited about because last year I was a yr 4 and I couldn't go. What's your favourite event in athletics?

The exciting districts

Renny taught me how to turn of my back to my tummy for backstroke to breaststroke. Here is a picture of the districts swimming sports.
When I was about to do the race Maya from swimming club told me to do a backstroke turn but twist on to your front so Renny's advice didn’t really matter. This was very helpful because I did not get disqualified. I just found out that I am going to West coast at Westport I will have to vs Greymouth and Westport School swimmers. Are you a good swimmer?

I learn’t how to do the shuffle in shot put this year. You have to try your best because everyone is coming for you and you need to step up your game.

I caught on to the main part of the shuffle very quickly. but every once and a while I got corrected for one reason or another. Here are what I got my awards for the Colgate games I have four finalist ribbons and I competitor ribbon, 3rd in discus out of the whole South Island. Here is my Hapu's amazing Kaitiakitanga animation.

My Hapu is Rimu (Orange) our school has school values Manakitanga  (Respect) Rangatiratanga (Leadership) Whanaungatanga (Relationships) and Kaitiakitanga (Respect our Environment). The people who were in Rimu in my class made an animation about Kaitiakitanga. Here is a summary of the animation so there was a man walking on the beach and he saw rubbish and he picked it up and saw a turtle was beached so he called for help and the vet came to use shovels and put the turtle back in the ocean where it belongs.

First we found rubbish and made up about how the turtle got beached and thought of stuff along the way. I am proud because we made the boring school poster into an animation. Do you think this was a good explanation on what Kaitiakitanga is?

Kereru Clued up kids adventure

So clued up kids was when yr 5&6 went to a location where different stations were set up. This year it was at the Boys Brigade hall in Hokitika. We went to do all different sorts of safety drills. My favourite was the horse safety stuff and what not to do around a horse. There were 8 different safety drills, they were Motorbike ,four wheeler safety, what to do when there is an earthquake. There were kitchen and bathroom hazards, Kiwi rail was about how you have to give way and stay off the tracks, St Johns, a Fire crawl tunnel to practise if there is a fire, animal safety around a horse , and police search and rescue. My favourite was the horse safety stuff and what not to do around them . I liked it because you got to pat and feed the horse.

The St Johns was about what to do if someone is bleeding uncontrollably. The Kiwi rail was about how the trains can't stop but you can. At the police search and rescue they told a story about a boy who did not want to get changed in front of some other kids so he hid behind a hut and while he was getting changed the other boys left and the boy got confused and wandered off and ended up getting lost. If he had stayed where he was and did not leave his spot he would have been found. There were helicopters and people searching for him and they ended up finding him 6 weeks later. Sadly he had died. At the police search and rescue they also showed us what they used and what they had in the packs of equipment. They were talking about how good a search and rescue team in Westport were and how they can go on for a couple of days and then another search and rescue team would go on for another couple of days and so on. Did you learn anything new from this post?

My amazing passport about myself

Here's a picture of my wonderful passport that I did a couple of weeks ago.

Here's how I made it. First I put my picture in the corner and put my name up the top. Then I chose a background that I thought was pretty. We had to put our family ,,our favourite colour and a couple of other things like my favourite food and what I am good at. I am proud of myself because I think the white words on the blue background looks good and everything blends in nicely. Do you think I did a good job? Do you have anything in common with me?

Wednesday 17 February 2021

To learn a bit more about me here's my all about me poster.

Here is a photo of my 'all about me' poster.

This is how I did it. My teacher Mr A printed out the posters then I wrote in my answers and along the way I coloured the little boxes. Once I had coloured them in I had to make it so that there was no white so I coloured the background. After that I showed Mr A he told me to cut around the edges so I did. After that he cut out little velcro and I stuck it up on the wall. What do you think I could do next time I get and all about me activity?

Kawa of care poster quite cool

Here is a photo of my Kawa of care poster .

I have spent the last couple of days making this poster with my friends Lucy and Taylor. I did this by going on to Canva and signing in with google. We started with the background and chose rules for the Kawa of care and made a hook. By hook I mean something that will make people read our poster like the computer at the top.  We had to make a list of rules about the Kawa of care ,that looked boring, into a cool poster and I think we did pretty well. I am proud of me and my group because every thing is easy to see and it's got a good colour scheme. Have you ever made a poster using Canva?

Is it a real or fake face?

Here is a slideshow of all the face quizzes I did and my score of how many I got right.

Here is the picture that I thought I would show you. I had to use arrows pointing to the areas that were the reasons why I thought one was real and one was fake.

I chose this picture because I thought it was the easiest to point out the reasons why I knew my answer was right. I thought that it was a good idea to share with you what 10 pictures that came up on my screen when I was doing this summer learning journey challenge. This is definitely the weirdest summer learning journey challenge so far. I am proud of myself because I got most of the questions right and think that I did a pretty good job at explaining the reasons why I knew the picture on the right was right. Have you ever tried the real or fake face game before if not here's a link. Here's the link Hope you had a lovely Christmas!

SLJ Haiku poem

I had a really fun time doing this I can't wait to do the rest of the summer learning journey. I did it by making my pictures on sumopaint and finding good things about summer and making them work with the 5-7-5 syllable rule. A haiku poem is a poem with 5 syllables the 7 syllables and then again 5 syllables. I have a lot of work ahead of me because I have been at my grandmas & my granny and grandads. We also just got back from camping in the caravan in Hanmer Springs today so i can't wait to catch up on all of the work I have to do. I hope you enjoyed looking at my blog post I just want to say happy holidays. :)

Here is a screencastify of me explaining what I did and what site I used to make my pictures!
